On 24 November 2020, six DHPS learners who had achieved the German Realschulabschluss, were sent out into the world with their secondary school leaving certificates in their hands.
In their final year, these learners received tuition in small groups for several weeks. They have not only taken advantage of this opportunity academically, but also thrived on its personal challenges:
“The uncertainty of the school year made you more flexible, you have become more independent and also learned to handle your tasks with perseverance. You had to find your own solutions, and you succeeded. I was proud to see you in the oral final examination,“ said DHPS principal Kristin Eichholz in her speech during the ceremony in the school auditorium.
The school management, the class teachers and the school board of Deutscher Schulverein Windhoek (1949) bid their learners an appreciative farewell. Board member Leana Theunissen addressed motivating words to the young adults and encouraged them to be proud of themselves and believe in themselves. And those who manage to do what they really enjoy doing, will automatically have success on their side.
The classmates also said goodbye to the Realschul-graduates with a joint song, wonderful gestures - and of course with a smile on the one eye and a tear in the other.
The school leavers certainly shared this feeling when they held the long-awaited certificates in their hands, presented by Ellen Gölz, Permanent Representative of the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Kristin Eichholz and Leana Theunissen.

The German Realschulabschluss is completed after grade 10 with the Mittlere Reife (intermediate school-leaving certificate) / Fachoberschulreife (vocational extension certificate). The lessons are more practice-oriented and, in addition to an extended basic education, supports learners in their career choice. A successful Realschulabschluss entitles the holder to take up vocational training, enter an intermediate civil service career or to attend a higher vocational or technical school.
