Visit to the Parliament

On 29/11/2021, the three social studies classes of grade 9 and grade 11 visited the parliament, accompanied by Ms Prinz, Mr Wegener, Mr Büter and Ms Wojcik.
David Nahogandja shared plenty of information about the building and the parliament, while we could gain a close look at the work of the members in the lobby and assembly. Unfortunately, we could not visit the National Council because a session was scheduled for that day and no visitors were allowed due to the corona pandemic.
Nevertheless, we are glad that we had the opportunity to see the assembly. We sat on the chairs of the MPs and the Speaker of Parliament and asked and clarified questions about the legislative process in Namibia and how parliament operates. This reflected the learners' interest in Namibian politics and the benefit of experiencing politics first hand, since classroom material and physical experiences can be better linked.
It also became clear during the debriefing in class that the learners were able to immediately compare some aspects with German politics and closely scrutinised Namibian politics. This makes the visit to parliament a rewarding and successful conclusion for the learners and teachers.
