Professional Development at DHPS: Strengthening Educational Quality
In the first quarter of 2026, our teachers as well as the educators from the DHPS boarding school and Child & Youth Centre participated in several targeted professional development programmes to further enhance teaching and student support while responding to current challenges.
A key focus was the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the classroom. In a workshop led by German expert Hauke Pölert, teachers explored in depth how AI can be meaningfully integrated to improve learning processes and provide more individualised feedback. Alongside practical applications, particular emphasis was placed on the responsible use of AI: learners should learn to question information critically and actively develop their own skills and understanding.
In addition, teachers engaged in a school-based professional development programme (SchiLF) focusing on cognitive activation and structured support in teaching. Special attention was given to how mistakes can be used constructively to deepen learning processes and to engage learners more actively in their own learning.
At the same time, educators from the DHPS boarding school and the DHPS Child & Youth Centre participated in a training session on pedagogical mindset and communication. The focus was on professionally handling diverse behaviours and on how to effectively support children and young people. Topics such as the difference between punishment and meaningful consequences, as well as nonviolent communication, were explored through practical approaches. The aim is to act respectfully even in challenging situations, to make needs visible, and to develop sustainable solutions.
All of these professional development initiatives contribute to strengthening a modern, reflective, and relationship-oriented learning and living environment at DHPS – for the benefit of our learners.
