National Cattle Breed competition

The national cattle breed competition for grade 9-11 learners was part of the agricultural Windhoek Show 2019.
Marcel zu Bentheim, Juri Krafft (both in class 9a) and Volrat Günzel (class 11b) represented DHPS.

On Monday, 30 September, the learners from various schools competed in the first round. They had to pass a one-hour test and then describe the quality features of cattle. After evaluating the results, the competition management announced that two DHPS learners, Juri and Volrat, had qualified for the finals on Wednesday.

A large audience gathered on the lawn of the show grounds for the final competition. The 17 participants from all over Namibia had to judge four cows and determine their order according to their characteristics. They had to explain their decision in detail to the jury of experienced breeders. Already at this point, it was obvious that Juri and Volrat stood a good chance to reach one of the top places due to their well-founded knowledge.

In the second round, they had to judge four Simmentaler bulls. This task was also well solved by the learners and the audience eagerly awaited the results. Finally, in the evening, after all the learners had received their participation certificate and a book, the excitement was great when Juri received a certificate and a N$ 10,000 cheque for his third place. The sovereign winner from Gobabis received N$ 30 000.-

Congratulations Juri!
