Learners inspired by Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin

On Wednesday, 16/03/2022, school life was marked by a real highlight for DHPS learners of grades 1-6: The Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin (Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, RSB) was a guest at the Deutsche Höhere Privatschule Windhoek (DHPS) and thrilled the audience with the musical fairy tale "Peter and the Wolf" by Sergei Prokofiev.

With great attention to detail, excellent musical skills and a captivating performance, the 12 musicians from Germany offered great and child-friendly insights into the world of classical music. "Music allows us to let our imagination run free," says Enrico Palascino (first violin of the RSB). Together with the learners, he discovered the infinite possibilities of what colour the bird was in "Peter and the Wolf", and how different perception is when it is not influenced by images, but only by musical performance.

The RSB musicians have visited many schools in Windhoek with their musical fairy tale in the past weeks to give children the opportunity to experience classical music, to get to know orchestral instruments better and to experience the performance of this popular piece.

It was certainly a very special experience for the DHPS learners and the enthusiasm for such extracurricular opportunities was evident from the exuberant and euphoric mood in the school auditorium. Thank you to the musicians of RSB for this unique opportunity.

RSB will also perform together with the Namibian Symphony Orchestra (NNSO) on 17 and 18 March 2022, both at 7pm in the DHPS auditorium. Tickets are available in advance or at the box office. Soloists and the orchestra will present a colourful musical repertoire, including excerpts from the opera "Carmen", soloists and orchestra.
