Junior European Election

On 23 and 24 May 2019, the grade 9-12 learners of the Deutsche Höhere Privatschule Windhoek (DHPS) had the opportunity to take part in the Junior European Election.

75% of the learners made use of their right to cast their vote for a German party. Bündnis 90/Die Grünen received the most votes with 34%. The second strongest party was the CDU/CSU with 30%.

Participation in the junior election is an excellent opportunity to "practice" and experience democracy, to actively address the topic of democratic elections in social studies, to bring the electoral system closer to the learners and to motivate them to political participation.

2,760 schools from Germany and German schools abroad took part in the 2019 European Junior Elections. Since 1999, more than 3 million young people have participated in the annual elections.
