DHPS U19 Basketball team on winning track in South Africa

After a difficult 2 years due to the Covid pandemic, the DHPS Basketball teams were once again invited to attend the prestigious International School of Southern Africa (ISSA) U19 Basketball Festival in Mafikeng/South Africa from 18-20 March 2022.
The tournament comprises of numerous U19 teams from schools and clubs from around Southern Africa (South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Swaziland). For the DHPS teams, the U19 girls (Phoenix) and boys (Penguins), it was an amazing experience to finally be able to demonstrate their skills in an international tournament.
The teams did us proud as the DHPS Penguins, lead by Zachary Philander (Captain) played five games winning two and losing three.
The DHPS Phoenix, lead by Nicole Redecker (Captain), played six games and won all six. They were crowned the champions, first time ever the tournament being won by a team from outside of South Africa.
Operi Tjingaete was selected into the All-star team while Ashley Linda was awarded the Most Valuable Player for the girls.
We are proud of our learners as they raised our school and nations flags high. Congratulations to our DHPS Basketball Champions 2022!
