Geopolitics in Transition: DHPS welcomes Dr. Rüdiger von Kleist

DHPS was delighted to welcome Dr Rüdiger von Kleist, Ministerial Director at the Federal Ministry of Finance - and even a DHPS alumnus, for a topical and relevant guest lecture.

In his talk “Geopolitics in Transition – USA, China, EU – and What About Namibia?”, he explained the major changes taking place in global politics. These included the end of US hegemony and the increasing fragmentation of the multilateral world order. He also discussed the changing attitude of the United States toward Europe.

Another important topic was China’s rapid economic growth and its strategic use of economic power as a geopolitical instrument. At the same time, he offered a critical perspective on Europe’s decades-long neglect of its military capabilities, as well as on the challenges associated with the expansion of the European Union. Germany's financial situation, in particular its new debt, was also discussed, along with ideas on how to make Germany more attractive to investors again.

Finally, he focused on Namibia: He emphasised the importance of stable public finances, targeted investment in education and a consistent fight against corruption.

The lecture offered our learners valuable insights into the complex dynamics of world politics and their significance for Namibia's future.
