On Saturday, 20 September 2025, our DHPS Head of Music Department Ms Martina Visser attended a marimba workshop in Boksburg, Johannesburg at the St Dominic’s School for Girls, presented by Joan and Brad Lithgow.

The interactive programme focussed on effective methods of teaching and implementing marimbas in both class and extra-mural settings.

With 25 music educators from across South Africa in attendance, it was also a valuable opportunity to share ideas and network and participants received teaching materials to support practical implementation.

The workshop was truly inspirational, highlighting how marimbas can enrich children’s development by fostering teamwork, coordination, listening skills and creativity.
