“Books are flying carpets, travelling to fantasy worlds", James Daniel once wrote.

The DHPS Reading Competition on 16 July 2025, swept the audience away to the wonders of ancient times.

During the 6th period, grades 3 and 4 (Group A) journeyed to the Olympic Games, brought to life by their top readers. Then, in the 7th period, the nine reading champions of grades 5 and 6 (Group B) whisked their classmates away to the mysterious world of Atlantis.

The jury, comprising 3 colleagues of the senior section’s German department were faced with a tough decision. In the end, the winners emerged: Viola Heger for Group A and Lars Schütte for Group B.

Congratulations to both, who will represent DHPS at the Horst Kreft Reading Festival in Otavi on 27 September 2025.
