Fire – fascinating and dangerous
The grade 4 learners had the opportunity to experience exciting and wonderful moments in the chemistry laboratory when they were allowed to experiment with fire under the watchful eye of Ms Stange, our laboratory assistant. What happens when you put glasses of varying sizes over a burning candle? What happens when the candle has been placed in water? What is the best way to extinguish fire?
The absolute highlight of the experiments were the differently coloured flames that develop depending on the combination with various chemical elements.
