On 18 October 2023, the motto of the day was once
again was “Watch out, don’t slip!”.
The annual soap soccer tournament is the
highlight for all children at the DHPS boarding school. Everyone looked forward
to the games with excitement and motivation. As an intern from Germany, I was
not familiar with soap football, yet it looked like a great game and I would
have loved to join in the fun. Soap soccer at DHPS is a thrilling collaborative
event between the children of the boarding school with those from the Child
& Youth Centre: Mixed teams of boarders and CYC children compete against
each other. I was particularly pleased to see so many girls signing up for the
event. In my experience, girls in Germany are often reluctant to play soccer
and the participation of these girls in the event set a strong example to their
peers. The ISV (Boarding School Learner
Representative Council) put a lot of effort in the preparations. Reflecting on
the day's activities, I can't help but wish that soap soccer had been a part of
my childhood in Germany. What a great day.
