IJF Interschools judo competition

Day 1: First IJF Inter-schools Team Competition held at DHPS

About 140 judoka visited the DHPS on 26 September 2019. Besides the Namibia Judo Schools Project (Cimbebasia Primary School, Madume Primary School, Windhoek International School, Windhoek Gymnasium, School of the Visually Impaired and Hearing Impaired), a South African team competed against the DHPS judo team. The guest school team from South Africa beat us by a few points and won the gold medal.
This event was a premiere in the history of judo in Namibia. In a good mood and relaxed atmosphere, many judo beginners gained an in-depth impression of the sport - highlighted by a judo demonstration of the DHPS team.
After the team events, South African senseis offered training sessions with new input and techniques for beginners and advanced judoka. The training and interaction with other judokas contributed significantly to relieving the beginners' fear of competition against advanced athletes.
From now on, this inter-school judo event will take place three times a year with the DHPS one of the main participants. The winning team is awarded the Manie Oberholzer floating trophy, which the Mandume Primary School deservedly secured during this initiation event, followed by Cimbebasia Primary School. The DHPS team won the bronze medal with their brave performance.
Parents, judoka, school principal and sports coordinators, helpers and organisers supported the competition and the organisers would like to thank the following individuals and companies:
- School principal and sports coordinators of the Namibia Judo Schools Union
- Easygrass for the decoration
- Ferreira Nursery for the decoration
- Manie Oberholzer for the organisation of catering and accommodation for our South African guests etc.
- DHPS janitorial department for setting up the equipment
- Ulla Rapp for the great photos of the team event

Day 2: Judo Schools Individual Competition

The second competition day on Saturday, 28 September 2019, was relocated to the "Dome” in Swakopmund. Only advanced judoka participated in this event. Especially our DHPS-Judoka excelled against the judo clubs of South Africa and Swakopmund and scored impressive goals. They all delivered their personal best and even surpassed their performance of the SA Open Championships in July 2019. The NBC camera team also attended the event and captured the best fighting moments.
A big thank you to DB Schenker for transporting the judo mats!
