Big Walk 2019: A special day with the school community

On Saturday, 22/06/2019, at relatively mild temperatures, about 500 grade 1 - 6 learners made their way to farm “Aris”, where the annual Big Walk of the Deutsche Höhere Privatschule Windhoek (DHPS) was held.
For the 26th time, children, parents, siblings, grandparents, family members and friends walked together to the benefit of the primary section and enjoyed an extraordinary day in nature.
Even before sunrise, the first visitors came to the festive grounds to have breakfast and to warm up. Refreshments were also offered along the 14-km route: Oranges, water, warm beverages, ice cream and tasty rolls - and those who had no strength to continue could jump onto a taxi and drive to the next check point or the finish line.

One of this year's highlights of the Big Walk – besides the picturesque hike through the beautiful scenery on farm “Aris” – was again the relaxed get-together on the festive grounds. Homemade cakes, steak rolls and drinks were the perfect way to end a special day together with members of the school community.
“This year, there were more adults accompanying the learners on the dusty route than ever before. I am very grateful that so many parents, godparents and friends set the school into motion for us on this year's Big Walk”, enthuses DHPS Principal, Ms Kristin Eichholz.

Such a major event would not have been possible without the commitment of many helping hands and the tireless commitment of dedicated parents, the school administration and sponsors.
The DHPS thanks all big and small helpers, visitors and hikers who once again made a significant contribution to the great success of this year's DHPS Big Walk. Thank you very much.
