Report on the class outing to Purple Fig Cooking School (written by Aylika Niemeyer)
On Friday the 22nd June, Grade 5c went to the Purple Fig Cooking School because we had the theme 'Food' in English and learned how to read and write recipes. In Art class we also made food out of salt dough, which was really fun.
At the Purple Fig Cooking School, we made healthy hamburgers in mixed groups. First we prepared all the food that went into the hamburger. Each group had a job to do for the whole group - for example chopping onions or tomatoes, grating carrots or apples. We had to prepare the buns, the meat and the salad. In the buns there were all sorts of vegetables. The recipe was for one person so we also had to use our Maths to increase the proportions and fraction amounts.
While the buns and the meat were cooking, we went to see the worm-farm, where all the food scrapes are reused.
After everything was finished we made our burgers and ate them - they were delicious!!

Report on the class outing to Purple Fig Cooking School (written by Vitalis Nghipandwa)
On Friday 22 June my 5c class went on an outing to the Purple Fig Cooking School for our food unit in English. At the school we made healthy hamburgers, loaded with vegetables. We read and followed a recipe with the help of some parents, our class teacher Mrs Kock and the cooking school teacher.
The class was split up into four groups. We prepared the food by measuring, cutting, and grating. Then we had to build our hamburgers however we wanted, with sauces and a healthy salad. When we were done with everything, we ate the healthy delicious hamburgers together as a class. The red group won cupcake holders for being the most tidy group.
