DHPS Reading Competition

Who would have thought that mites are the strongest animals in the world?
The young readers of grades 3-6 of the Deutsche Höhere Privatschule Windhoek (DHPS) just learnt that at the annual DHPS Reading Competition.

On Thursday, 11 August 2022 the selected readers of Groups A (grade 3-4) and B (grades 5-6) had to present an unprepared text. The jury – consisting of Till Kohlwes (Hitradio Namibia), Helga Falk (DHPS teacher), Kristin Eichholz (DHPS principal) and Conni Hecht (Head of DHPS primary section) – listened closely to the animal stories and awarded points for the reading speed, emphasis, articulation and comprehension.

The winner of Group A, Alena Böck and the winner of Group B, Alex Wolff will represent the DHPS at this year´s „Horst-Krefft-Lesefest“ (Horst Krefft Reading Event). Congratulations and all the best!

"The learners presented these unfamiliar texts with partially difficult words in such a confident and perfectly emphasised way. The linguistic and self-confidence of the German as a foreign language learners was impressive. I am very proud of all the winners per class - all of them", says DHPS Principal Ms Eichholz.

A big thank you to all participants of the DHPS Reading Competition. We hope you continue to enjoy reading and we are very proud of you.
