The DHPS bids Farewell to the 2018 Abitur Graduates

After twelve years of exams, excursions and countless theoretical and practical projects - the goal - the end of the school days - which was certainly eagerly awaited by many, has finally arrived:
While 54 learners of the DHPS successfully completed the German International Abitur, 2 learners reached the academic part of the German Fachhochschulreife (entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences).

In the context of 168 written Abitur examinations and 112 oral and presentation examinations, the young adults demonstrated their potential gained from their experience over the past twelve years and that they can deal with fastidious topics, which do not necessarily form part of their living environment, in a serious and mature way.

“These Abitur learners are a special grade, a spectacular mix", said DHPS principal Kristin Eichholz in her speech at the ceremonial presentation of the Abitur reports on 2 November 2018 at the DHPS auditorium. “Your Abi-show was sensational, witty, funny and creative. On this day you have proved your attachment to your teachers and set new standards for the "last day at school”, Ms Eichholz said enthusiastically.”

In addition to their principal, the Abitur graduates were accompanied by a great team of teachers until the very last minute, who supported, defended and tried to do justice to their learners. “However, a certain degree of maturity and confidence is required to be guided and accompanied. The learners have put their trust in their teachers and on the finishing straight of their school career, they have given everything one last time.

This is also reflected in the outstanding performance of the Abitur learners: The overall average for 2018 is 2.38. 14 learners have achieved a 1 before the decimal point and the Victor Reisenauer was the top achiever with 1.0.

The prizes were presented by Ambassador Schlaga during the closing ceremony. Afterwards, the graduates listened to a varied programme with the teachers and parents. The highlight of the evening were the creative and touching speeches of the class teachers and the learners - especially the poetry slam of Emma Engel left a lasting impression on the audience - underlining the special sense of community, the strong cohesion and, above all, the shared fun of learning.

The German international Abitur examination, offered in Namibia exclusively by the DHPS, opens international doors for Abitur learners. It is therefore not surprising, that soon the majority of the DHPS graduates will start (dual)-studies or an apprenticeship abroad.

The interdisciplinary DIAP curriculum provides learners with an excellent academic foundation in the areas of language, natural sciences (biology, chemistry, and physics), social sciences (social/political studies, geography and history), mathematics and arts (visual arts & music). This unique school programme promotes academic achievement, critical thinking and educates learners to become independent personalities.

Congratulations to this special DHPS Class of 2018, and all the best for the future:
