Celebrating 110 years DHPS: Open Day & DKR Cultural Festival

On the occasion of the 110th anniversary, a real "festive week” was held at the Deutsche Höhere Privatschule Windhoek (DHPS). In addition to the Orchestra Week of German Schools in Southern Africa - which was organised and hosted by the DHPS this year and culminated in the closing concert on 8 March 2019 - the Open Day and the cultural festival of the German Cultural Council (DKR) were also celebrated.

On 9 March 2019, interested visitors had the opportunity to gain exciting insights into classrooms, take a closer look at the spacious campus during a school tour and enjoy a cup of coffee, cake and rolls.

Right from the primary section in the Kreutzberger building, learners had exciting timetables, comprising new letters of the alphabet or fairy tales such as "Peter and the Wolf" during the German lessons.

On the main campus there was no sign of boring lessons - instead, there were projects and a variety of teaching methods in art, biology, physics and technical skills, the DHPS choir invited visitors to listen, while the judo extra-mural even challenged to join the fights.

In addition, participants of the Cultural Festival of the DRK (German Cultural Council) offered visitors a glimpse behind the scenes of the group works and the preparations of the closing event, which was a complete success.
Under the motto of “Treff(punkt) Tiere – Deutschland trifft Namibia” fantastic results were produced and in the evening, great pictures were presented, poems were freely recited and inspiring pieces of music, especially composed for the event by Christopher Ströbl, could be admired.
