Official Start of the Orchestra Week

Preparations were in full swing, the school premises were creatively decorated with musical elements and the rehearsals became more and more professional. Finally, the big day arrived: the opening of the Orchestra Week of the German Schools in Southern Africa.

Since Monday, 04/03/2019, flute and violin sounds, brass melodies and percussion rhythms fill the DHPS campus. About 120 musicians and their musical instruments arrived safely in Windhoek, all participants found their host families and the rehearsals with the renowned South African conductor Alexander Fokkens and the music teachers of the German schools in Windhoek, Pretoria, Cape Town and Johannesburg are running at full steam.

The major musical event was already advertised by the learners of the Deutsche Höhere Privatschule Windhoek (DHPS) in advance. On Friday, 1 March 2019, for example, they organised a flash mob and adapted the well-known "Cup Song” for the Orchestra Week at the DHPS.

The highlight of the week - the big closing concert - will take place on Friday, 08/03/2019 at 18h00 in the DHPS auditorium.

The DHPS wishes all musicians, participants, guests and everyone involved a successful and harmonious time with many memorable musical moments. Thank you to all the helpers, organisers and sponsors who play a decisive role in the success of the event.
