History up Close: Prof. Dr Speitkamp in Conversation with DHPS Learners

History may sometimes seem rather dry; however when it is presented to the class by a renowned university professor, history comes to life:
This was witnessed by grade 11 history courses of the DHPS, who welcomed the president of the Bauhaus University in Weimar, Prof. Dr Winfried Speitkamp on 31 October 2018.

Prof. Speitkamp is currently in Namibia at the invitation of the Federal Government and for DHPS teachers and learners it was a very special experience to listen to his lecture on “Modern European colonialism in Africa - history and commemorative culture".

The different perspectives of the culture of remembrance were highlighted in his introductory presentation on colonial history and the debate around it today, but especially in the subsequent discussion, in which the learners addressed many exciting questions.
Historical events themselves and in-depth discussions with Prof. Speitkamp motivated the learners to participate and encouraged a lively discussion about history.

Thank you to the German Embassy in Namibia and Prof. Speitkamp for this unique opportunity and his inspiring visit.
