FINA World Junior Swimming Championships

From 20 to 25 August 2019, the 7th FINA World Junior Swimming Championships were held in Budapest, Hungary.
900 swimmers from 110 countries competed against each other in the 50-metre pool of the Duna Arena, the world's most modern indoor swimming pool. Boys aged 15-18 and girls aged 14-17 took part in 42 disciplines.

Namibia was represented by Ronan Wantenaar, Corné Le Roux, Heleni Stergiadis and DHPS learner Tiana Esslinger (grade 10).
Prerequisite for the qualification of the Namibian swimmers was that they achieved 600 FINA points in one discipline and 550 points in other disciplines. Ronan Wantenaar broke five Namibian records.

  • Corné Le Roux: 100 freestyle 59.07 (95), 200 freestyle 2:04.33 (69), 400 freestyle 4:31.19 (67), 100 butterfly 58.61 (54), 200 butterfly 2:14.14 (41)
  • Heleni Stergiadis: 100 freestyle 1:02.55 (90), 200 freestyle 2:14.92 (69), 400 freestyle 4:42.90 (42), 100 backstroke 1:08.75 (51), 200 backstroke 2:28.09 (38), 100 butterfly 1:08.19 (51), 200 medley 2:29.76 (53), 400 medley 5:14.62 (33)
