Donation campaign of the DHPS Interact Club: You too CAN do

For a long time already, the DHPS Interact Club was planning a special donation campaign, involving everybody and yet achieve a great effect.

Our learners Verena Grasreiner and Isabella Kessler, members of the DHPS Interact Club and two of the main initiators of the donation campaign “You too CAN do”, themselves were absolutely overwhelmed by the success of the campaign: Nearly 600 food cans were collected and donated by the DHPS school community for a good cause.

In cooperation with the United Nations Information Centre Windhoek (UNIC), who launched the food drive and in memory of Nelson Mandela on Nelson Mandela International Day on 18 July, the DHPS Interact Club wanted to contribute to the fight against hunger in the world - with significant success.

“It is in our hands to make the world a better place“– Nelson Mandela once used this quote when addressing a young audience and DHPS principal Kristin Eichholz repeated the quote when handing over the donation addressing the DHPS Interact Club. The learners and their teacher Conni Hecht have taken this quote to heart and have set a good example for making the world a slightly better place every day.

On 17 July 2017, the handover took place with the principal, the DHPS Interact Club, representatives of UNIC Windhoek and Frieda Kemuiko of the Havana Soup Kitchen. This soup kitchen will benefit from the donated food.

In addition to moving speeches by all involved parties, there was a German musical contribution by the smallest visitors of the soup kitchen, whereby they mediated - not only to members of the DHPS Interact Club - how great it feels to do something good.

Thank you to our school community for donating numerous food cans.
