Cultural Festival 2018 in Otjiwarongo

On Thursday, 13 September 2018, after school, Ms Erb accompanied us to the "Kulturfest” (cultural festival) in Otjiwarongo. The Kulturfest is an annual event organised alternately by another school each year under the auspices of the Deutscher Kulturrat.
Before we were divided into our groups, we played a few games to break the ice. Afterwards we had an introduction to the topics of “Till Eulenspiegel” and “Die Schildbürger” (German tales).
In the evening we lay down exhausted on our mattresses outside, watching the stars and soon fell asleep. In the middle of the night we woke up from a sound that at first sounded like a shower. After a few minutes the noise stopped and we were about to fall asleep again when we suddenly got wet. The lawn sprinklers! We slept on the lawn and now had to flee as fast as we could. There was only one dry mattress left and we had to spend the rest of the night all squashed together. Fortunately we could stay at the boarding school the following two nights and did not get wet anymore.
During the weekend, each group worked on a story, and had lots of fun converting it into theatre plays. We chose costumes and crafted accessories. We diligently rehearsed the plays and had a very successful performance on Saturday evening.
In between there was time for fun and games. We enjoyed swimming and the camp-fire evenings most. It was great to make new friendships with boys and girls from the other schools.
A big thank you goes to Zimmermann Garage for providing us with a VW Caddy and to the teachers of Privatschule Otjiwarongo for the perfect organisation. Thank you also to the kitchen staff of the boarding school for the great catering.
We are grateful that we could participate in this event.
