A Great Team of Strong Kids at the DHPS Holiday Programme

During the two-week holiday programme of the Child & Youth Centre of the Deutsche Höhere Privatschule (DHPS) learners fought together for joint victory: First of all, a soccer camp was scheduled from 06 - 10/05/2019 and then from 13 - 17/05/2019 judo & self-defence.
The role models were professional athletes: fighting together as a team for victory, congratulating the winner with a good sporting spirit or, like Axel Büring and Mike Schöps – sharing their silver and gold medals and welding them together again. The soccer week was an impressive, team-building experience for the learners.
In the practice sessions, learners gained a general ball sense, dribbling skills, fast and accurate passes and good ball acceptance - the daily soccer matches reflected the growing joy and confidence in the sport. The tips of the more experienced learners were very motivating for the newcomers. In the morning circle, important topics around soccer were discussed: Learners and educators reviewed previous practise sessions and games and the general openness, team spirit, fair play and practical helpfulness soon let everyone grow together as a team. Where in the beginning the learners played and fought as opponents, they helped and congratulated each other when winning a game at the end. Friendship and real sportsmanship developed during the week.
The second week was quite different. The aim was to develop strong self-confidence. Each child is uniquely gifted and shaped. Nobody should be pushed around. Sometimes children lack the courage to put their trust in someone. At times, it is difficult to estimate one’s own limits and adhere to them. Yet, friends and family are good companions, who can help and advise us in unpleasant situations. In intensive judo training, the children learned many throws, how to free themselves and how to force the opponent to the mat.
The children participated enthusiastically in both game and practical exercises. The breaks were just as much fun as repeating and trying out new tips and tricks on the ball or with the opponent.
“I liked the soccer tournament, the team work and the fun games the most – and that there even was cake on the final day.:-)” So the feedback was great and there will certainly be a next sports holiday programme learners and educators can look forward to.
