The Kindergarten with the Baby group, “Krabbelgruppe” and Toddler group as well as the school sections of entrance classes and Grade 1-6 form the Primary section of DHPS.Kindergarten The baby group of DHPS cares for the smallest members of our school community from three months old. The “Krabbelgruppe” professional staff takes care of toddlers from age one until they move on to "Kleinkindgruppe” at age three. German is the sole medium of instruction. Pre-primary school From five or six years old, children move on into the so called entrance classes, where tuition is offered either in German or English. Both the Kindergarten and the pre-primary school are open continuously throughout most holidays. Grade 1-2 There is a close cooperation of the teachers of the pre-primary section and those of the entrance classes. Tuition is offered according to the syllabi of Baden-Württemberg/Germany. All grades are divided into three German and one English class. Lessons start at 7:00 until 11:35. Grade 3-6 Modern teaching methods are applied with a strong emphasis on co-operative learning. For Grade 3-5, lessons are from 7:00 to12:25, for Grade 6 until 13:10. Waiting class We offer free professional supervision from 11:35 to 13:10 for those pupils who cannot be picked up straight after their school day has ended. Remedial teaching by means of team teaching in Grades 1-6 is offered during assigned periods. In the remedial center our professional school psychologist cares for learners with learning difficulties. The primary section offers a wide variety of extra murals covering sport, music and the arts. Regularly a school drama production is staged. The Primary Big Walk forms one of the highlights of the school calendar. Events A Big Walk takes place at the end of June each year. In April all pupils take part in an athletics day. The Grade six pupils take part in an outing to the desert station NaDEET in October each year.
