Method days at the DHPS (26 and 27 January 2012
“We laughed a lot” was the comment of Samy Tommasi on the module “Body language”, where
the learners had the possibilities to experience different postures in different roles.
Reflecting DHPS' objects as a school of encounter, the method days for all grade 10 learners are now already offered successfully in the second year: learners of both streams – DIAP and NSSC – learn together in small groups and both languages - German and English - are used. On 26 and 27 January 2012 all learners of grade 10 had to participate in all six modules, which had been
prepared by eleven teachers.
This time the topics were:
- Analyzing texts (B. Stein/ M. Jongebloed)
- Relaxing and stress releasing methods
(T. Beyer/T. Horenburg)
- Presentations with Power Point (Dr. L. Gohr/S. Weigel)
- Designing mind-maps, learning posters, handouts
(M. Hennes/I. Reiser)
- Understanding questions correctly (C. Dietz-Verrier)
- Body language (S. Hailer/H. Falk)
This event is subject to the continuing evaluation process of the school development. Learners as
well as teachers have been questioned intensively for their opinion on the organization and
contents of the method days of 2011. By this way the first part of the method days in 2012 could
be optimized: the module “Understanding questions correctly” has been scheduled for the
beginning of the academic year, in order to prepare learners for upcoming tests and
examinations.
In addition the concept of method training for the senior secondary phase is going to be linked
even more to the program “Learning how to learn” in junior secondary phase and the concept of
the primary grades. The staff will look for new ways and possibilities to develop an integrative
concept of methods for the DHPS to apply from Grade 1 to 12. This process will take place
during special Wednesday afternoon sessions, the so called “professional learning communities”
of DHPS teachers.
