The boarding facilities of DHPS

Information for students doing their practical training

Thank you for your interest to do your practical training at the DHPS hostel. The hostel department is part of the Deutsche Höhere Privatschule (DHPS), the only German school abroad in Namibia. The patron of the school is Deutscher Schulverein Windhoek (1949).

The hostel of the DHPS accommodates full time borders and students in the day care hostel.

The hostel is divided into two sections:

• children of primary and secondary grades (Grades 1 to 13) are cared for in eight groups.
• The day care hostel will care for children of grades 1 to 8 after school until 18h00.

Currently a team of nine qualified educationalists takes care of 180 children and teenagers of different ethnic and linguistic backgrounds in the sections of the hostel. German  is our main medium, English is also used. Ideally the team is supported by five students doing practical training.

While doing your practical training we offer:

• competent and proficient guidance
• cooperation in a highly motivated team the possibility to be appointed to different fields of working
• visit other institutions
• accommodation and meals (from the hostel kitchen)
• the possibility to do your practical training in an extraordinary country

Conditions to do your practical training in our institution:

• undergraduate studies in the social sciences field of study (preferable social education/ educationalist)
• time of practical training: at least six months (only shorter time period in special circumstances)
• interest for foreign cultures
• flexibility to be appointed to different sections of our institution
