Goal The goal of French classes is the development of the pupils’ ability to communicate and act in an intercultural surrounding, in other words the development of understanding and using the language in everyday situations. Knowledge and insights into the subsystems vocabulary, grammar, pragmatics and regional and cultural studies as well as their implementation and use in the fields of listening and reading comprehension, speaking and writing serve to reach this goal.
Textbooks French classes at the DHPS start in Grade 6 and are taught five periods a week. The allocation of periods in Grades 10 – 12 is four periods a week (exception Grade 11, second half of the year: five periods a week).
French lessons in Grades 6 – 10 are based on the four volumes of “Etudes Françaises Ensemble” published by KLETT, which are used at German 'Realschulen' and 'Gesamtschulen' in the subject ‘French as a second Language’. From 2011 the textbook “Tous Ensemble” will be introduced from Grade 6 onwards. In Grades 11 and 12 the two volumes of “Horizons” are used in class. Apart from that set texts and current articles of the press are considered.
