Syllabi and Assessment The chemistry is right! The prosperity of our modern society has amongst others been achieved by the far reaching accomplishments of chemistry. Progress in this field improves the quality of life of millions of people. It accelerates the development in areas like medicine, agriculture, production of food and the energy sector and it helps producing inexpensive tough common items. Pharmaceuticals, fabrics, dyes, fertilizer, synthetic materials, enamel varnish, fragrances, detergent and sweeteners add to the quality of our lives. Material with tailored properties and new forms of energy production and storage are just a few key words for the success of research in chemistry.![]() The aim of chemistry classes is to familiarize the pupils with chemistry as motor for innovation and indispensable part of our daily lives and to intensify the respective dialogue. The importance of experiments in this context is unquestioned and not only motivates them. Chemistry at the DHPS is taught from Grades 8 – 12. The lessons aim at showing the interrelation between everyday life, technology and environment making use of a systematic approach, gain in insight and relevant terminology. Independent activities and experiments carried out by the pupils are regarded essential and can be conducted in two pupils’ laboratories. Therefore, group or partner work for pupils is mandatory as often as possible to let them develop a direct link to what is taking place. ![]() The chemistry laboratories for the pupils are well equipped for independent experiments carried out by the pupils. The equally well equipped prep room supports their work. There is a laptop, a permanently installed beamer and an OHP in each room. Thus it is possible to set up natural and technological conditions in an experimental way, perceive them consciously and describe them in order to deduce the underlying scientific laws and principles and look at their interrelation. ![]() |
