The Sponsorship model of the DHPS

Introduction by the Head of the English Medium Branch (EMB)
Grades 7–12

We would like to introduce to you the sponsorship model of the DHPS (Deutsche Höhere Privatschule). For quite a few of our learners this has in the past been the only possibility to acquire the excellent educational opportunities that the DHPS has to offer.

DHPS – a multicultural school
The DHPS is a German-Namibian school with a German- and an English-speaking section. It is a school where children and youths of different cultural backgrounds learn to work together, to celebrate together, as well as to respect each other’s differences. Within these two sections of the school this does not only apply to children who speak a different language or have another skin colour, but also to the different ethnical groups within a class.

Personal background of the sponsored children
Learners of the English Medium Branch mainly come from families with a low income - mostly from Katutura and Khomasdal. Unfortunately, quite a number of these children have already had to deal with the trauma of losing a parent – be it to death or through separation. And so many of our EMB children have a difficult family background, with only one parent to take care of them or an aunt or another relative, usually without the funds to adequately support such a child.

School fees

The DHPS is a private school that finances itself by way of school fees, as well as being subsidized by both the Namibian and German governments. Notwithstanding substantial reductions facilitated by the German government for children coming from socially deprived families, some families cannot afford even such reduced school fees. Due to its high educational standard the school offers its learners a very good perspective for their future.

We would like to enable especially the talented and highly motivated learners coming from a low-income family to obtain a school-leaving certificate on the highest possible level and ultimately to acquire a good degree. A good education offers them a chance to escape from the vicious circle of poverty.

Sponsorship model

Would you be interested in supporting a child by taking over a sponsorship? By making a monthly contribution of maybe 50 Euro, or the equivalent in any other currency, you would be able to ensure a substantial financial contribution for a learner. Within the framework of active sponsorships the school informs the sponsors about the educational progress of the children sponsored by them. With your consent, the child you sponsor will gladly keep in touch with you.

Or would you perhaps like to make a contribution towards our sponsorship account to assist in building up an emergency fund? Apart from a direct active sponsorship for one of the children we also offer the possibility of a passive partnership. We are grateful for every single financial contribution into our emergency fund, which will be used exclusively for children in need of instant support. We are most grateful for your interest and your support!
